The Barbados Association Of Atlanta Inc.

The Barbados Association of Atlanta, Inc. was founded by a handful of Bajans in the mid-1980s. In 1986 an interim committee was formed which ultimately led to the Association's incorporation.

Mrs. Shirley Squires was the interim president and ultimately founding president. Since its inception Shirley Squires, Alan Russell, Ken Knight, Bonita Ebb, Tony Alleyne, Russell Boyce, Michael Drayton, Gail Ishmael and Darcy King have served as President. The association's current president is Sandra Nicholls. Special mention must be made of the late Dr. Romley Moseley, a founding member and a professor of theology at Emory University, after whom the Annual Scholarship award is named. The association meets once per month. One of its major activities is celebrating Barbados Independence anniversary with an awards banquet and ball.

Aims and Objectives

The Association aims to foster social and cultural ties with Barbadians and persons of Barbadian ancestry in the southeastern Unites States of America as well as offer opportunities for greater interaction with the community, its leaders and other social and cultural groups. The membership of the association also includes Americans, and others of Caribbean decent and is open to all nationalities.
